Golfing fans know Matt Every as a scratch golfer who finished 6th at the 2012 Sony Open in Honolulu. He’s also a stand-up guy.
Every was suspended by the pro golf tour in 2011 after he was charged with possession of marijuana – a charge which was later dropped.
Back on the tour, and playing with skill and determination, Every earned his first top ten finish at Sony.
Asked by reporters is he is now hanging out with new friends since his arrest, Every refused to tow the party line. According to the New York Times, Every told the crowd:
“If one of my friends likes to smoke marijuana every now and then, I’m not going to say, ‘Well, you can’t be my friend anymore’”
“Honestly, man, I know more people who smoke marijuana than who don’t smoke marijuana. I know that’s probably not the politically correct thing to say, but it’s the truth.”
“It’s not a big deal to me. Like I don’t frown on people doing that stuff. I don’t do it, but I don’t frown upon it.”
Most pro athletes are too worried about offending product sponsors than being honest. Not Matt Every. He is showing real class on and off the golf course.
