NEW YORK AGREES TO DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA – WHAT ABOUT MARYLAND

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed reducing the penalty for small amounts of marijuana from a criminal misdemeanor to a $100 civil fine.

Cuomo’s plan has won the support of New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, who publicly said that the governor’s proposal “strikes the right balance.” And for Maryland? Nothing.

If civil fines strike the right balance in New York, Massachusetts, Colorado and 14 other states, why not here in Maryland?

Why are our young people hauled into court, saddled with criminal convictions, and assigned probation officers when young people in other states are given fines for possession of small amounts of marijuana?

That’s the question. Let me know if you have the answer.
